The Mac. He is back. He’s clear again. He is so clear this time, you’ll just want to get out the windex just to see if the glass is actually there. Two concepts. One is a phone, the other is a desktop computer. Made with the real intention of creating something straight out of a sci fi for the greater good of your eyeballs and future humanity.

Mac is one of those fellows who, for two main reasons (amongst quite a few others,) continues to hit hard on the online publishing circuit with his amazing designs. ONE: because his designs are so innovative, they’re on the verge of “you are a crazy person.” TWO: because not only does Mac do nice design, he does a LOT of it. This guy is a workaholic.

What have we got from Mac today? A phone and a desktop computer.

First, the computer. You’ll notice the clarity instantly, I’m sure. This computer is called “Zafiro” – it’s made of glass and has a round rim. It’s made to work as a home version of the giant Precrime computer seen in the film “Minority Report.” You’ll remember the glass I.D. cards slipped in the side of the monitor. In addition, the keys on the keyboard are made of “deformable metal” which flattens out when not in use.

And the phone. Look at that thing! It’s called the “Cobalto” and it’s also made with deformable metal. It has the option of forming keys or working flat like modern “smartphone” screens already do. This phone has the same ability to project 3D holograms from a 2D surface that at least one Mac design has had in the past.

NOTE: Cool beans! The phone, Mac informs us, is going to be on a Russian TV show that happened upon his designs through his website. I hope we can feature that feature right freaking here soon!

Quack Quack! Ok I won’t kid around this time, but I think Mac Funamizu has matured pretty much in his design sensibilities. The CD player is called Quackie, but the concept looks decent enough for the tweens who endorse stuff like the Mickey Mouse MP3 players. Quackie is thus: There’s a round body that rolls and a black speaker. The speaker is attached to the body at the axis and it rolls around the body. Simple functions of play/stop/next/back and volume up/down are included.

To pump up the volume, you roll the body so that the “beak” opens up; shutting the beak powers-off the system. Click the black speaker once to skip to the next song and click it thrice to go back.

Wow Mickey n Donald…a winner team!

What do you do with an unused hanger, early in the morning? This right here is the worlds newest reinvention of the clothing hanger. In a very basic swift move of the hand, our super friend Mac has created the possibility for installation art in every home in the modern world. It’d make Alexander Calder proud to see and experience what Mac calls the “Mobile Hanger.” Not for playing with, kitty!

Bad kitty, down! Not for you!

This lovely little ditty is leftover artwork. This project is a hanger system that acts as a normal hanger unless it is not needed to hold clothing. While the normal hanger then becomes useless, the Mobile Hanger becomes art.

See below how it is made to balance perfectly just so long as the obvious one-hanger-per-hole rule is followed, and wu-la! You’ve got your own little Institute of Art in your living room!

The Pitch♪er. Can you see that little musical note? I hope you can, because that’s what’s up here. Music. See the pitcher (or the glass, or the tin,) or anything else that contains liquid and works in this way: flick the container with your finger. It makes a sound. Drink some of the liquid, and flick it again. It makes a different sound. How does this work into a plan for another unique “Mactastic” invention? Look ahead!

There is noone quite like Mac Funamizu. He can churn out wild quality ideas like they’re so many candy bits from a bag. The Pitch♪er works like any other pitcher except for the tuning bar handle and the mallet which strikes the bar.

As you can see in the simple chart below, the higher the liquid level, the higher the note. If the liquid is gone, the note is low!

Hologram technology may still be in a full bloom, but that doesn’t stop some designers from conceiving fun ideas to play around with. Like a kid in a candy store, the 3D Desktop Concept is perfect for computer-freaks like me. Natural hand movements across the black curtain to crumple and discard documents, or type out a virtual page akin to a typewriter; this concept has virtual holographic goodies by the dozens! If the idea is too overbearing then switch off the embedded tiny projectors and use this as a desk lamp!

Some features:

A browser window can be resized by actually “pinching” and dragging the tab at bottom right.

It would be fun if a document could be made as if you were using a typewriter. The curled paper hologram comes out of the keyboard.

Touching the 3D objects will be possible by dragging, throwing, resizing, etc.

By pressing the mouse body downwards, the cursor sinks (goes deeper) on screen. When you release it, it goes back to the default position (front).

Veteran at YD, designer Mac Funamizu has given us many techie ideas to dwell on in the past. This time around he’s come up with a non-techie solution for those who are fussy about the kinda pepper they use. There is a difference in the Black and White peppercorns, which is why this Black & White Peppermill. Color-coded as the namesake, just load the peppercorns into their respective compartments and use one hand to grind the seasoning over your food.

Grind Black, White or both together…..as per your taste! A cute little salt shaker in the center completes the spice family.

Are you over the iPhone 3G S and Palm Pre? Good, coz I got to get you prepared for the future. In ten years from now, there probably will be no war amongst manufacturers with regards to display; coz there simply will be NONE! Holograms will replace the screens! Trou Hologram Mobile Phone relies totally on 3D holograms being projected in the vacant display area. Tiny projectors line the inner surface of the hollow and bring to life the many aspects of the technology. Imagine seeing 3D maps of a particular area or your girlfriend’s hologram when she calls!

ILLUMIO-(illumination-+-emotion)-Concept-LEDs-by-Mac-Funamizu

It’s a sorry situation that we need to resort to gimmicks to help resolve our inner emotions. ILLUMIO here is an abstract model of how we currently feel and are reacting towards relationships and the environment. Honestly I’d rather arrange my face to be a grumpy frown if I’m upset. Going by Robert Plutchik’s psychoevolutionary theory of emotion there are basically eight primary emotions: anger, fear, sadness, disgust, surprise, curiosity, acceptance and joy. Arrangements and colors of the LEDs on the ILLUMIO reflect these effectively.

The Package:

Workings:

Reasoning:

LEDs have a broad range of application and they are generally used in general lighting situations. It’s a known fact that mood lights influence our biorhythms and have an effect on our well-being. Rooms with an individualized and emotional LED light concept spread a feeling of harmony and relaxation. The resident can escape from everyday life and strengthen him or herself for daily challenges. In turn, this energizing promotes health and wellness. For more on this concept read here. Some of us are vocal, some demonstrative, for the rest of the population that are not comfy with disclosure, they can resort to the ILLUMIO

For the sake of all the Gays and female population, I hope the day comes when it rains HOT Hunky MEN. This is one deluge that my single friends wouldn’t mind; and if the lord floods the streets with Adonis kinda guys, then I’m joining the party too! Wild fantasies aside, my point of focus here is actually UMBRELLAS! Yes, those sorry basic so-called shields can be spectacular as well! Don’t believe me? Take a look at the 10 compilations here; they vary from structural indulgences to conceptual capabilities.

10) SENZ Umbrella

LT reviewed the SENZ Umbrella and still raves about its aerodynamic shape that keeps rain off his back. It’s designed to withstand up to 70 mph winds and won’t flip inside-out, no matter how strong the winds are.

9) The Inside Out Umbrella by Seung Hee Son

Dripping umbrellas belong to Mac Funamizu’s Pendurella Stand, but in case you want the sort that converts into a bag and holds all the water in, then look no further. Here’s the Inside Out Umbrella for you. All the wet drippy stuff stays inside.

8 ) DIY Electric Umbrella

A little bit of ingenuity and some steady hands on your part is required to fashion this awesome Electric Umbrella. Get wet, wild and lit-up in the RAIN!

7) Bluetooth Umbrella by Mikhail Stawsky

The urban jungle has turned us into animals hungry for gadgets in every aspect of our lives. A stroll in the rain means you can’t use your mobile phone, so heck; let’s add Bluetooth to our umbrellas! That’s what the fuss in this Umbrella is all about. Besides syncing with your mobile phone, it doubles up as radio so you can totally go “singing in the rain.”

6) LightDrops by Sang-Kyun Park

Adding a different perspective to the umbrella is this LightDrops contraption. It harnesses potential energy from raindrops that slam onto the conductive membrane called PDVF, which is then transformed into electrical energy. This converted electric energy in turn powers the embedded LEDs, “sending your umbrella ablaze with light.”

5 ) Sprout Umbrella by Matthew Swinton

The entire umbrella literally sprouts out from the handle. The canopy and the hardware are enclosed inside it. Maneuver the knob to slide open the umbrella and turn it to lock things in place.

4) BUMBOO by Rizki Tarisa & Maximilian Aji Wijoyoseno

This one’s an interesting piece coz it proclaims to be an umbrella, pillow, walking stick and a garbage pick-stick. Fold the shaft of the stick into a neat grid and the umbrella transforms into a soft pillow (the shaft is covered with a soft foam fabric). Stretching out the shaft turns into a walking stick. A point at the tip, on the floor-end, makes it a garbage pick-stick, and of course the canopy makes it an umbrella!

3) Self-Defence Umbrella by Yoel Mazur

I LOVE this idea! It SCREAMS Just This: Don’t mess with me mister, else I’ll turn this “half-covering” umbrella into a Shirasaya (sword) or a spiked club and fight you off!

Karaoke in the rain? No worries, the Music in the Rain Umbrella features a player that will dish out the background score and you can sing along! The controls to the player can be manipulated with the handle and the speaker is located in the canopy, and thankfully on the inside!

1) Eco-Brolly Umbrella by Shiu Yuk Yuen

Amazing as a concept but impractical as a design, the Eco-Brolly is what we can call a summer project rather than a Monsoon aid. As we pointed out earlier, the main premise for this umbrella was to reuse discarded newspapers as the canopy for your umbrella skeleton, therefore making it a green design.

This umbrella can re-use and adapt objects such as newspaper, card, and plastic bag and turn it into an umbrella. It can re-use whatever the consumer thinks of reusing. It is a supporting devise when it rains, all the user has to do is unscrew the top lid, poke the lid onto the middle of the newspaper, quick screw to secure it & open it out like an umbrella!

When it rains, it pours they say; I hope you enjoyed this compilation and flood it with a deluge of HITS!
